Good morning!! The giveaway for the fabric and extras needed to make the Playtime Pocket Dress has ended and we have a winner! Random.org randomly chose comment number 10 which was Jenny! I’ll be sending you an email today!!
Last week I was going through Lainey’s closet and taking out things that I knew wouldn’t fit her this Spring. One of the things I came across was this H&M dress from last year. It was inexpensive and served it’s purpose last summer but instead of tossing it or donating it or getting $1 for it at a resale I decided to repurpose it into something she could wear again!!
Making this dress into a skirt was super simple and took me all of 10 minutes to do. I started by putting the dress on her (without putting her arms in) and deciding how long to make it. I then laid out the dress and drew a straight line across where I wanted to cut. (I cut above the ruler)
Then I folded down the top about an inch (because I was using 3/4 inch elastic, you would fold down bigger or smaller depending on what width elastic you have) and pinned.
Once I had pinned all the way around I sewed almost all the way around. You want to make sure to leave about an inch or two open for you to slide in the elastic. Take your elastic and measure around your daughter deciding how long you need it. Then pin a safety pin to the end of your elastic and slide it into the opening and work it all the way around the skirt.
Once you have it all the way through sew the two ends of the elastic together like this.
Then just sew that opening you left for the elastic closed and you’re done!! Now to be honest I should have cut the dress much higher up and made that elastic casing nicer by folding down the fabric twice before sewing so I wouldn’t have a raw edge. But I wasn’t going for professional here, just quick and easy. Plus I wanted to save enough of this piece to possibly do something fun with it later!
Lainey lost another tooth since her last photo shoot. I love her toothless smile
